Benjamin Carson Blackwell, 68, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Born June 26, 1942, he was a son of the late John A. and Elizabeth Witherspoon Blackwell. Mr. Blackwell was a graduate of Lynchburg High School and was a lifelong member of Concord Presbyterian Church. He was retired from Becton-Dickinson.
Survivors include two sisters, Eve Blackwell Cousar and her husband, William Douglas Cousar, and Sandra Blackwell Goza; a sister-in-law, Sidney Phillips Blackwell; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Walton Blackwell.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Concord Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. James Braswell officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Sandra B. Goza, 3410 Florence Highway, Mayesville.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorials be made to Concord Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 3350 E. Brewington Road, Sumter, SC 29153.
Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
