Mrs. Allene Thomas McCoy, 91, wife of Taylor Hamilton Almarode since October 1997, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013. Born in Sampson County, Sept. 1, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Frank Boyd Thomas and Fannie Crumpler Thomas.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Bishopville, SC. The Rev. Henry Altman will officiate the service and burial in the church cemetery.

She was married to the late Lang Marsh McCoy for 42 years. She attended public school and Pineland College in Sampson County. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Bishopville, SC, since 1951.

Mrs. McCoy was the founder and owner of McCoy Memorial Nursing Center and co-founder and owner of McCoy Jewelers from 1951 – 1989, both of Bishopville, S.C. She served on the Board of Central Carolina Technical College for 11 years. She was on the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce for seven years. She was also co-founder and capital campaign co-chairman for the SC Cotton Museum. She worked tirelessly with her community on numerous projects. Included among them was her work through the Lee County Council on Aging, work publishing the Lee County Past & Present, and work through the Lee County Historical Society. She was honored with numerous awards for her service.

Survivors include her husband; her daughters and son-in-law, Pat (Zan) West of Hartsville, S.C. and Connie Bogart of Murrells Inlet, S.C. Grandchildren are Lex West and his wife, Sherry, Karen West Driggers and Martin, all of Hartsville, S.C., Wesley McCaskill of Darlington, Donna Lynn McCaskill of Bishopville, and eight great-grandchildren. Her sister, Elizabeth Thomas Sykes, of Sampson County, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held Tuesday at the funeral home from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 167, Bishopville, S.C. 29010, the Lee County Historical Society, P.O. Box 684, Bishopville, S.C. 29010, or the Foundation Board at Central Carolina Technical College, 506 N. Guignard Drive, Sumter, S.C. 29150-2499.
