Loretta Hunt Thompson
Mrs. Thompson, 82, of Charlotte, NC, went to be with the Lord on April 11, 2012, at home surrounded by her loving family. As a member of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Thompson was a faithful Christian and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother.
She was born on October 22, 1929, in Winnsboro, South Carolina, to the late Clifton and Nobie Lanier Hunt. A Charlotte resident since 1955, Retta was an avid golfer and spent many beautiful afternoons with friends and family at Sharon Golf Club. She loved to host bridge club and holidays with her family by serving her famous 'Retta-fried Chicken.' She taught three generations of her family how to fish and loved her autographed picture of Arnold Palmer smiling at her from a wall in the kitchen. Watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow gave her great joy. She was a beautiful example of generosity, kindness and wit and will be loved and missed by her family and friends.
Loretta is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, David Wesley Thompson, Jr.; daughter, Barbara T. Neal (Bill), and David (Kip) Wesley Thompson III (Tamara); grandchildren, Laura Frye (Wes), Kevin Neal, Todd Neal (Jenny), Brooke Fulton (Drew), Micah Keith (Rob), and Kate Legg (William); great grandchildren, Zachary, Justin, Will, Emily, Jake, John Browder, Luke, Harper and Knox; and siblings, Revonne Hunt (Mickey), Greenville, SC, and Leon Hunt (Martha), Bishopville, SC.
The family will receive friends on Tues., Apr. 17, 2012, from 1-2 p.m. at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, 7407 Steele Creek Road, Charlotte, NC followed by her funeral service at 2 p.m. Rev. Dr. Jeff Pinkston and Rev. Valerie Phillips will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Steele Creek Presbyterian Church or to Community Home Care and Hospice, 12995 E. Independence Blvd., #A, Matthews, NC 28105.
Condolences to the family may be offered at www.mcewenpinevillechapel.com.
