Ernest Carl Koone, 66, husband of Mary Katherine Meyer Koone, died Monday, January 3, 2011 at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter, he was raised by the late Harvey Hodge and the late Mamie Sue Hodge.

He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and the Sumter Lodge #364 of Ancient Free Masons for over 30 years.  He was a U. S. Navy veteran of Vietnam and was a retired Plant Superintendent of Phibro-Tech.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter; his step-mother, Pearlene Koone of Florida; two sons, Karl Koone of Sumter and Michael Murphy and wife Anna of Lexington; three daughters, Kimberley Bartlette, Kellie Friel and husband Bill, Mary Beth Bryant and husband Scott all of Sumter; seven sisters; three brothers; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rembert Koone.

Funeral services will be held at 2. P.M. Thursday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Stacey McDonald and Rev. James McElveen officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Rites.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.
