Ashwood, SC
Warren "Junior" Smith, 88, of the Ashwood community, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at his home.
Born in Ninety-Six on Aug. 27, 1922, he was a son of the late Luther Warren Smith and the late Lillian Longshore Smith. He owned and operated Smith Service Station and Upholstery Shop in Bishopville for 30 years. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Medical Technician and received medals for his service.
He was married to the late Ruby Segars Smith for more than 50 years. He used his medical training to take excellent care of her before her death.
He was a member of the Hardee Party Club, where he enjoyed meeting and sharing stories - current and from the good old days.
Surviving are daughters Elinor S. Holloman (Glenn) of Florence and Judy S. McLeod (Eldridge) of Ashwood; sons Glenn Smith (Teressa), Bryan Smith, and Mike Smith, all of Ashwood; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frankie S. Lee of Virginia Beach.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy (Mary Ruth); daughters-in-law Julia (Bryan) and Robin (Mike); and siblings Juanita, Heyward, Hubert, Robert and Toby.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday at Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David W. Penick and the Rev. Jim Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the church and other times at the home of Glenn and Teressa Smith, 1699 Spring Hill Rd.
