Allan Sindler died on December 12th, between his own holiday of Chanukah, the celebration of lights, the light of freedom, the light of justice -- and Christmas, the holiday of so many of his friends, the celebration of peace on earth, goodwill towards men. This seems poetic and ironic, since he lived outside of religious borders, dedicating his life to the ideals of both holidays.He never preached, he just did what he thought was right.
He was a consummate husband, family man, and citizen. And like a single stone thrown into the ocean, his life, by example, sent ripples beyond his shores and touched more people than he could ever know.
He was born in Bishopville on October 23, 1925 to Frank and Pauline Sindler. He married his one and only true love, Sophie Payeff in 1951. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Edgar and Jerry.
He is beloved by his wife, his remaining brother-Merrill, his sons and their families; Robert (Beth, Julie, Amy, David, Sean and Derek), Marc (Joan, Jesse and Sarah) and Michael, and his very special grandchildren-in-law, Sam and Kyeongseon, and his precious great-grandchildren, Allan, Jennifer and Charly.
Mr. Sindler was a teacher, an engineer, a sculptor, a soldier, an athlete, an architect, and a naturalist. He was involved in countless projects to better his community, his state and his country. He will be missed.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Allan Sindler will be held Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel.
In lieu flowers, memorials may be made to the community medical clinic of Kershaw County: Food for Soul (through the United Way) food bank, or your own favorite charity.
