Bernice A. Watson - December 18, 2010

Bernice A. Watson, 99, widow of the late Esley Watson, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at a local nursing center.
Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Willie Atkinson and the late Easter Evans Atkinson. Mrs. Watson was a member of Elliott Baptist Church and attended New Salem Baptist Church after moving to Sumter. She was retired from Bi-Flex in Bishopville. She was a member of the Brewington Homemaker's Club.
Even though Mrs. Watson did not have any children of her own, she was a grandmother to many.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, B.T. "Bo" Barwick Sr. of Sumter; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Atkinson of Sumter and Sybil Atkinson of Greenville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Watson was the last of 10 children. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Cecil, Eugene, Leslie, Dalton, Odell and Carl Atkinson; and three sisters, Dorothy Barwick, Mary Alice Iseman and Lila Shirley.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bennie Barwick officiating. Burial will be in the Wells Cemetery.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mrs. Gladys Atkinson, 4185 Myrtle Beach Hwy.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Marguerite Porter for being like a sister to Bernice, and also to the ladies of New Salem Baptist Church for their regular visits and to the ladies of Concord Presbyterian Church.
Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
