Stanford Farmer, 88, beloved husband of the late Minnie A. Smith Farmer, died Thursday, December 10, 2009 in Bishopville.

Born in Winnsboro, SC and a long time resident of the Cedar Creek Community, Mr. Farmer was a son of the late William Frank Farmer and the late Elizabeth Farmer. Mr Farmer was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a deacon for 58 years. He also served as Sunday school teacher and choir member for over 60 years. Mr. Farmer loved music and was the last remaining member of the original Cedar Creek Quartet. He retired from Reeves Brothers, Inc. and was a World War II veteran. He also served as a chaplain of the local VFW.

Survivors include four children, Wayne J. Farmer, Linda F. Gainey (Major), Catherine F. Harris (Wayne), and S. Warren Farmer (Kay); nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Wendell Farmer; two brothers, Carrol Farmer and the Rev. Ellie Farmer; and a sister, Willie Rose Brown.

Funeral services will be held a 2 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. B.R. Wallace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Andrew W. Harris, Donald J. Harris, Mark D. Hopkins, Scotty M. Hopkins, Earl O. Gainey, and Adam Whiteside.

Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home and at other times at 741 Gum Springs Road, Bishopville.
