Bishopville, SC Mary Avanell Barnes Hammock, 73, of Chester, MD passed away at her daughter’s home on August 10, 2010 after a lengthy illness. She was born to her parents, Belle Marie and William T. Jones on May 20, 1937 in Sumter, SC, where she was also raised. Mary lived in Severna Park and Brooklyn Park, MD for many years, while working as a beautician for over forty years. Mary enjoyed her work and participating in church activities. Mrs. Hammock was preceded in death by her first husband, Irvin C. Barnes, her second husband, Warren L. Hammock, and her great granddaughter. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Kay Haddaway of Chester, MD and Cindy Marie Lucas of Mt. Pleasant, SC, her son, Irvin Dean Barnes of Leland, NC; her brother, James Edward Jones of Sumter, SC; as well as, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home on Friday, August 13th from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at Elvaton Baptist Church on Saturday, August 14th at 11:00am. A second visitation will be held at the Norton Funeral Home in Bishopville, SC on Monday from 9:30-11:00am, with a graveside service to follow at Cedar Creek Baptist Church at 11:30am.
