Winston Haley Jewell Sr., age 65, died on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born on Oct. 28, 1946, in Ft. Fairfield, Maine, he was a son of the late Omar Jewell and Irene Westbrook. He played baseball for the P-15's from 1964 to 1965 and was a vocalist for the Jackstones in 1965. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved music, sports and people. He will be remembered as a loving father, brother, grandfather and friend. He was a devoted member of The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses.
Surviving are three sons, Winston H. Jewell Jr. and his wife, Phyllis, and Cayce B. Jewell, all of Sumter, and Andrew "AJ" Jewell of Rock Hill; two daughters, Angie Jewell Morningstar of Sumter and Felicia Jewell McClellan and her husband, Tom, of Clover; a brother, Owen Jewell; a sister, Kandy Stamps and her husband, David, of Charleston; six grandchildren, Winston "Haley" Jewell III, Marcus Morningstar, Kody Morningstar, Jackie Morningstar, Jakob Fricke and Michael McClellan; his former wife; Sandra Jewell Fender; one niece, Brianna Stamps; and two nephews, Daniel Stamps and Braden Lantowski.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Scott Lantowski and Robin Lantowski; and a great-granddaughter, Devyn Jewell.
A remembrance service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home and other times at the home of Angie Morningstar, 1500 Pinewood Road, Sumter, SC 29150.
