She was a lifelong resident of Bishopville, SC, and had been employed for 40 years with the Lee County Sheriff's Department. Very civic-minded, she recently received her 50-year pin with the Pilot Club and had just celebrated 43 years of perfect attendance. She was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Bishopville Chapter 74. As well, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
For most of her adult life, her membership had been at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Constance Herbert Sunday School Class and was active in the Eva Woodham Circle.
Jeannie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family, and her family loved her deeply. She lived her life caring for others. She was sensitive, without a doubt, to people of all ages and color.
She is survived by three sons, Mike Alexander (Betsy) of Murrells Inlet, SC, Wiley Alexander (DeLois) of Hartsville, SC, and Whit Alexander (Beth) of Greenville, SC; six grandchildren, Chad, Abby, Wesley, Sara Kate, Charlotte and Graham; one great-granddaughter, Bryn.
She was predeceased by a sister, Willie Rose Carter, and a grandson, Karl Alexander.
The family will receive friends at Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville, on Saturday, December 10, 2011, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.
A funeral service, conducted by the Rev. Henry A. Altman, will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2011, 2:30 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Bishopville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Karl E. Alexander Endowed Scholarship Fund, Wofford College, 429 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
