Hasel A. Skinner - May 29, 2011








Funeral services for Hasel A. Skinner, Md. who passed away May 29, 2011 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, will be held Wednesday June 1 at 11:30 at the Hebron United Methodist Church ,3471 Una Road, Bishopville, S.C.. 


Burial will be in the Hebron Methodist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville Chapel. Rev. Christine Wechsler will officiate. 


Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Church. 


He was born in Bishopville, S.C. on July 6, 1914 to the late George Washington Skinner and Alma Martha Andrews Skinner. He was a graduate of Bishopville High School, received a B.S. of Pharmacy from the University of South Carolina. After serving in World War II he received a degree as Doctor of Medicine at the Medical College of South Carolina, Charleston. 


After returning to Columbia where he remained a life long resident, Dr. Skinner joined Dr. Miles W. Cheatham in General Practice. He later became head physician at the Department of Correction, a position he remained in for over thirty years. During this time he remained in private practice as well as being on the staff at the Baptist Medical Center in Columbia. 


Following his retirement, Dr. Skinner enjoyed gardening, his Gamecocks, baseball and of course (Story Telling).


Dr. Skinner is survived by his son Tommy Whitfield Skinner and wife Joan and a stepdaughter, Deborah T. Harrelson and husband Roger. He is also survived by a grandson Thomas W. Skinner and two step grandchildren, Kimberly H. Welp and Bryan L. Ward. He is preceded in death by his wives, Virginia C. Skinner and Jeanette T. Skinner, a son, Wayne Stilwell Skinner and his brothers, James Thomas Skinner, John Carol Skinner, Warren Zimmerman Skinner and sisters, Elizabeth Skinner Smith and Joyce Skinner. 


God sent us Lillie Mae (Penny) Glenn and the Skinner/Harrelson families have no way of expressing our thanks as deeply as she deserves for her dedication for over 50 years.
