Lila Berry Stokes

BISHOPVILLE 

Lila Berry Stokes, 89, widow of Lenice Hugo Stokes, died Monday, March 30, 2009, at Palmetto Health Richland.

Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Elizabeth Johnson Berry. Mrs. Stokes was a member of Bayview Baptist Church in Columbia.

Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Carolyn R. Stokes of Florence and Muriel E. Fisher of Fairfax, Va.; two grandchildren, Michael A. Burgess of Fairfax and Margot A. Shibley of Strasburg, Va.; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters; and a nephew, Marion Berry Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Concord United Methodist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Berry, Kelvin Berry, Kyle Berry, Andrew Bunton, Michael Brugess and Al Murphy.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. today at the home, 1534 Hardscrabble Road, Columbia, and from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home.
